HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Serve with STEP Canvassing — use your gifts for His Kingdom.

Beyond the summer program, STEP relies on a year-round ministry team working behind the scenes. The roles below are volunteer positions that support the STEP program — recruiting students, telling the STEP story, and keeping the ministry organized and accountable. If one of them fits your gifts, we would love to hear from you.

A Note on Compensation

STEP Canvassing is a ministry in its infancy, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to use our skills and talents for His kingdom. At this time we’re unable to provide compensation for year-round ministry-team members, and the summer STEP-program compensation does not apply to these roles. We’re looking for people excited to see God provide, willing to sacrifice for His cause, and to trust Him with the details. Our hope is to compensate team members eventually, but we cannot guarantee it now or in the future.

Marketing Coordinator

Overview

Develops and executes STEP’s overall marketing strategy — raising awareness, recruiting students, communicating the mission, and building relationships with churches, schools, youth groups, and ministry partners. Strategic and relational: not just “advertise STEP,” but help people understand why it exists, who it’s for, and how to get involved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain STEP’s yearly marketing strategy (recruitment, fundraising, promotion).
  • Identify ways to reach prospective students, parents, churches, schools, youth groups, and partners.
  • Build and maintain outreach relationships and databases with churches, pastors, youth leaders, schools, and organizations.
  • Coordinate promotion across social media, email, churches, and other channels (with the Social Media Producer).
  • Help create promotional materials, presentations, flyers, brochures, and digital resources; keep messaging and branding consistent.
  • Track results, research new outreach opportunities, and grow STEP’s reach and impact.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Understands social media and modern marketing trends.
  • Comfortable communicating with pastors, parents, students, and ministry leaders.
  • Proactive; works independently.
  • Genuine passion for evangelism and discipleship.
  • Creative and strategic; comfortable reaching out to new people.
  • Experience in marketing, communications, sales, or ministry; willing to travel if needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage STEP’s social presence and develop engaging content for each platform.
  • Edit student interviews and testimonials.
  • Develop concepts, content calendars, captions, hooks, and calls to action; uphold the visual identity and tone.

  • Track engagement and performance, keep an organized media library, and work with the Marketing Coordinator on recruitment goals.

Ideal Candidate

  • Understands social media culture and short-form video.
  • Experience with photo and/or video editing; strong visual and creative eye.
  • Can tell a compelling story through images and video.
  • Knows how to craft strong hooks and calls to action.
  • Willing to experiment, analyze, and improve.
  • Passionate about ministry; communicates STEP’s mission authentically.
Accountant / Bookkeeper

Overview

Oversees STEP’s financial records and related administrative and employment responsibilities — keeping finances accurate, organized, and handled responsibly. Because STEP involves student employment, sales commissions, program expenses, and donations, this role is central to the organization’s financial health and accountability.

  • Organize receipts and documentation; monitor program expenses against the approved budget.
  • Assist with budgeting, financial planning, student sales, commissions, payroll, and bonuses.
  • Prepare financial reports and information for tax filings and required reporting.
